Building stronger incomes and more resilient coffee farmers

Implemented from 2021 to 2025, IDH's Coffee Farmer Income Resilience Program (CFIRP) worked with more than 25,000 coffee-farming households in Uganda and Kenya to strengthen income resilience through regenerative agriculture, blended service delivery, finance, and market access for diversified farm produce.
Strong evidence of increased incomes, regenerative agriculture adoption, and household resilience
The endline evaluation found strong evidence that the program contributed to increased farmer incomes, expanded adoption of regenerative agriculture practices, and improved resilience to economic shocks. Coffee income increased substantially, particularly in Uganda, while the average number of regenerative agriculture practices adopted by farmers nearly doubled over the program period. The evaluation also found reductions in hunger months and cash shortages, indicating stronger household resilience.
