Creating positive change where it matters
Focus Areas describe the sectors, landscapes and funds where we collaborate with our partners for the greatest impact. To ensure sustainability is always front and centre, all of our work is guided by one or more of five cross-cutting Impact Agendas. Working with every link in the value chain to transform ways of working from the field to the boardroom.
A multidimensional approach to transformation
Environmental and social challenges are deeply interconnected and complex, requiring collaborative and holistic solutions. By focusing on four key impact areas identified with our partners, we can address the most pressing sustainability issues.
Living Income
Raising farmer incomes by addressing unequal value distribution

Decent Work and Wages
Ensuring fair remuneration for workers and producers in global value chains

Gender Equality
Shaping gender transformative approaches that catalyse economic growth
Climate and Nature
Planet-proof and people-first policies to keep supply chains and ecosystems thriving
Transforming value chains across sectors and regions
From agriculture to apparel – we pursue our Impact Agendas through different IDH-powered programs in 16 sectors across the globe. From producing to consuming markets, stakeholders along the whole value chain collaborate to improve social and environmental sustainability within their sector, whether in manufacturing, policies or procurement practices.

Transforming food systems and value chains in Africa
Food systems is more than just agriculture—it’s a complex network of actors, relationships, and functions spanning production, processing, distribution, consumption, and waste management. These systems shape and are shaped by climate resilience, biodiversity, and rural livelihoods.
At IDH, we believe the solution lies in a food system approach—a bold, holistic strategy that integrates value chains, socio-economic development, and environmental sustainability to drive meaningful change.
