IDH India and UNDP India have announced a partnership aimed at promoting sustainable development, inclusive growth, and climate resilience. The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise their collaboration, marking a significant milestone in their shared commitment to addressing some of India’s most pressing developmental challenges.

The newly signed MoU outlines several strategic areas where IDH India and UNDP India will collaborate. These include utilising blockchain technology to enhance traceability and ensure sustainability and transparency within the critical value chains of tea, coffee, and spices. The collaboration will also develop and disseminate training programmes designed to empower women managers within value chains, promoting inclusive growth and gender equality. With climate change posing increasing challenges, the partnership will focus on promoting practices that build resilience and improve the livelihoods of farmers.

Additionally, the sharing of training materials, reports, and other knowledge products will amplify the impact of both organisations’ efforts, ensuring best practices are widely adopted. By collaboratively designing focusing on innovations, evidence generation, and capacity-building initiatives, IDH India and UNDP India aim to engage the government, private sector partners and as well as international organisations globally.

This partnership is the result of bilateral meetings held between September and October 2023, during which the two organisations explored the scope and mutual interests of their collaboration.

Commenting on the partnership, IDH India Country Director, Jagjeet Singh Kandal, stated, “This partnership with UNDP India opens the door to a wealth of opportunities that will significantly enhance our capabilities and reach. Our collaboration will foster greater public and private sector involvement in development programmes, promoting sustainable and inclusive growth across India.”

IDH India is dedicated to promoting sustainable trade by leveraging the power of markets to create positive social, environmental, and economic impacts. By working with companies, governments, and civil society, IDH aims to scale sustainable practices in agriculture and other sectors, improving the livelihoods of millions of people.

The partnership between IDH India and UNDP India is poised to make a significant impact on sustainable development efforts across the country. Through this collaboration, both organisations will work towards creating a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future for all.
