On 25 February, the mayors of Mbangassina, Ntui, and Ngoro, supported by their counterparts of Ngambe Tikar and Yoko municipalities, officially launched their collective action plan to drive sustainable agricultural development while ensuring environmental protection and social inclusion. This plan was developed through coalitions uniting public institutions, private sector companies, farmer organizations, and civil society groups under the Green Commodity Landscape Program (GCLP). A Strategic Roadmap for Sustainability

This collective action plan is structured around three key pillars:

  1. Sustainable Production: Supporting sustainable and deforestation-free agricultural practices in key sectors such as cocoa, cassava, and maize to ensure long-term economic viability while reducing environmental impact.
  2. Forest Protection: Implementing reforestation programs, promoting sustainable community forest management, and contributing to the conservation of Mpem & Djim National Park to curb deforestation and biodiversity loss.
  3. Social and Economic Inclusion: Strengthening community engagement, particularly among women and youth, in natural resource management while enhancing economic opportunities through improved access to financing and market linkages.

Significant Investments and the Need for More Collaboration

Since the launch of the GCLP, €3.6 million have been mobilized by IDH and cocoa industry partners from 2021 to 2025 to support sustainable cocoa production and community forest conservation in Ntui and Mbangassina municipalities. However, further efforts are required to ensure long-term sustainability, balancing economic growth with social and environmental benefits.

This newly launched action plan serves as a clear roadmap for new partners seeking to collaborate and contribute to the sustainable development of the municipalities. It provides an overview of the achievements so far, identifies remaining gaps, and outlines upcoming initiatives that require financial and technical support.

A Call for Investment in Climate, Forest, and People

This action plan is an open invitation to companies, multilateral institutions, impact investors, and global funding organizations to invest in the sustainability and resilience of the Mbangassina, Ntui, and Ngoro municipalities. By joining forces, stakeholders can contribute to lasting positive impacts on forests, biodiversity, and local communities while ensuring responsible agricultural production in the region.

This action plan serves as a strategic roadmap for partners looking to make a tangible impact on climate, forests, and communities. Sustaining this momentum requires continued collaboration and investment. Now is the time to act, join us.
