Impact Evaluation of the IDH Farmfit Africa Program
An independent evaluation of the IDH Farmfit Program (2019-2024), implemented by IDH, was carried out by ADE consultancy in collaboration with the Institute of Development Studies. The program was designed to transform the agricultural service market, enhance access to finance, boost food trade, and deliver sector insights through effective public-private partnerships.
The program at a glance
Throughout the program, over 250,000 smallholder farmers were directly impacted. Approximately 60% of these farmers experienced increased incomes, while the program also strengthened the grain, vegetable, and fruit value chains of participating companies. By addressing procurement and service delivery challenges, improving regional food security, and promoting market sustainability, the program made significant contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
This independent evaluation assessed the program’s relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, expected impact, and sustainability. The findings offer actionable insights for scaling and replicating these successes beyond.
The program was supported by funding from FCDO and BMGF, whose contributions were instrumental in achieving these outcomes.
