The webinar explored innovative carbon removal solutions in agriculture, featuring two investees supported by the reVive Hub: Biodiversal and Tropicarbon, who are pioneering nature-based and tech-enabled approaches to climate mitigation in Latin America.
Overview
The webinar "Catalyzing solutions between agriculture and carbon markets with the reVive Hub" explored innovative carbon removal solutions in agriculture, featuring two investees supported by the reVive Hub: Biodiversal and Tropicarbon, who are pioneering nature-based and tech-enabled approaches to climate mitigation in Latin America. More than 40 participants, including members of our Finance Network, investment firms, corporates, carbon market actors, and development institutions participated in the webinar.
Objectives of the Webinar
- Share lessons from our technical assistance work in the carbon space
- Introduce projects currently seeking catalytic financing
- Foster connections across the ecosystem to scale credible, high-integrity carbon removal solutions in agriculture
Presentations
A round of presentations took place from:
- Bioflux: A supporter of the reVive Hub that provides technical assistance to Biodiversal. They shared an overview of the carbon credit landscape, MRV trends, and the role of durable carbon removals such as biochar and enhanced rock weathering (ERW), highlighting the strategic relevance of Article 6 and the rising demand for high-integrity credits.
- Biodiversal: A reVive-supported investee introducing their coffee biochar program in Colombia. The company is scaling production of high-integrity biochar and looking to raise blended finance to expand the program and deliver removals aligned with global standards.
- Tropicarbon: Another reVive-supported investee presenting their ERW program that transforms mining waste into a climate solution. By distributing crushed silicate rock to farmers, they improve yields and soils while removing CO₂. Tropicarbon is currently raising seed investment to scale its pilot program.
Key Takeaways
- Carbon removal in agriculture offers scalable, high-integrity solutions that can complement emissions reduction strategies while delivering co-benefits for soils, productivity, and farmer livelihoods.
- Biochar and ERW are promising approaches with measurable and durable climate impact. Their success depends on robust MRV systems, financial trust, and farmer adoption. For small-scale agriculture, improving accessibility to reliable monitoring systems will be critical.
- Both investees shared perspectives on economic viability. Biodiversal emphasized the income potential of biochar in coffee value chains, while Tropicarbon pointed to cost savings by replacing conventional fertilizers with ERW.
- Farmer confidence and knowledge are essential enablers. Field-level data and visible results are necessary to build trust in these technologies and support their broader adoption.
- The reVive Hub plays a catalytic role by providing technical assistance to help early-stage initiatives become investment-ready. It connects them to a network of aligned financiers and partners, enabling the conditions for scalable, high-integrity carbon removal in agricultural value chains.
