Towards Establishing Return on Investment in the Tea Sector of Assam
Commissioned by the WSAF, CSD Hyderabad conducted a comprehensive study to empiricallyassess the economic costs of GBV and establish the return on investment (ROI) for the WSAFin the tea industry and other agricultural value chains, thereby presenting a business casefor investments in GBV prevention programmes. The study focuses on three objectives: (1)identifying and documenting forms of GBV in the tea sector, (2) understanding the social andeconomic impacts of GBV, and (3) calculating the tangible and intangible costs of GBV. Datacollection, which took place from November 2023 to February 2024, covered four districts—Nagaon, Golaghat, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia—and involved 750 women workers across 15 TEsowned by APPL, MRIL, Mokalbari Tea, Jalan Industries, and the Chamong Group.
